Bertrand Russell told Bronowski this great joke about this woman that wrote to him saying, “Given that it's impossible to disprove solipsism, I'm outraged that more people don't believe it! Why don't they believe it?”

The camera that a friend lost down a mountain in the anecdote I related recently wasn't a Kuhsel but a Rollei. He brought the Rollei that he bought as a replacement to the mountain one in to show me, along with his new Sony, and they are remarkably similar. I was marvelling at the similarity very quickly as I turned them over in my hands, the lining being similar, even the position of the screws and so on.

As for the story, he adds that in fact the camera fell over the bergshrund, bouncing twice in large, steady parabolic arcs; he still remembers it very clearly. He showed me a slide from the period too... mountaineering is quite a thing.
