If you look at the usgs map of magnetic anomalies you will see several bands of influence across the Lake Ontario area including the lake itself. Photos on the Orbwatch website support the idea that visual phenomena are seen in the area though the website is way off base making claims that the phenomena are artifacts of extraterrestrial intelligence.... There have been some disappearances in the area but if one finds oneself in a magnetic anomaly zone with no visibility to navigate by stars, it is easy to find oneself lost... Some of these magnetic anomaly zones are charted on aircraft navigation charts and many are referenced for avoidance... Fact is that the Project Magnet work was the first of a long string of studies in that region that led to the current understandings about earth magnetics.... which may well be related to earthlights, or some family of earthlight. I don't doubt for one second that there has been intrigue around the UFO matter from the time the military was a global presence with a central reporting capability - the late 1940s until the present. The Twining memo, the Schulgen memo, the stacks of redacted documentation, etc are all indicative of a desire to suppress info that is obviously ground breaking (paradigm crushing?).... I still think that the best way to get to the truth about a phenomena that repeats itself in certain locations, like earthlights, is to do the science in a logical and sequential manner and let the chips fall where they may. You may be aware of a recent case out of Mexico, Campeche - 5Mar04 involving FLIR and Radar detections of anomalous targets around a FAM C-26 Merlin. I have watched the pro-UFO crowd gouging the "Lets wait and do a thorough analysis of this before we jump to conclusions" crowd... such railing and ranting. In the end though it looks like the targets were flares from oil wells in an oil field about 80 miles from the aircraft. My team were in Mexico City on 28April through 3May of this year and were advised of the case before its release. We were invited to participate in the press conference where, allegedly, the Mexican Secretary of Defense would make a supporting anouncement. We declined as we hadn't seen the original footage and analysis usually take several months. It was a good thing we did, there were no SEDENA reps at the conference and the materials to analyse the case are lacking in several important areas. Namely there is no radar data being made available and the FLIR video is incomplete though it is about 30 minutes long - it has been cut and spliced and is not presented in its entirety... So we look at the azimuth and declination, we plot the path of the aircraft by GPS position, we examine satellite footage of the region the FLIR is imaging and there they are.... the Cantrell oil fields....80 miles away. The pro UFO crowd is scoffing because "the lights went behind clouds" yet it is only an illusion caused by the movement of the aircraft relative the fixed position of the light sources. The lights don't move relative each other.... One example.... Another - A film of a near midair collision between a helicopter and a flying saucer is made, allegedly near the World Trade Center in 2000.... People are calling this a fantastic film of a real event. There are even folks claiming to have been on the helicopter when the event occured... So I do a websearch and find the earliest reference to this film is on the Sci Fi Channel website and it is obvious this film is a commercial, part of a series of commercials for the Sci Fi Channel. Last summer, I am in Washington DC and I meet with Larry Landsman, Director of Special Projects for the SciFi Channel and, in response to my direct question on the matter, he informs me that indeed the film was manufactured for SciFi by an animation firm. Yet the proUFO crowd will have nothing of it and continue to support the material. Another example, the TNT production "UFOs:The Secret KGB Files" hosted by Roger Moore. Allegedly footage from the Soviet Union of UFO pursuits. Well, we examine the material which is for the most part poor quality. We start seeing anomalies. The cockpit of a Russian fighter pursuing a cylindrical UFO is actually an F-16 cockpit....so we start digging and, to our great surprise and luck, we find a video of a Russian airshow made for aviation buffs - my whole team are aviation nuts - and every single bit of footage used in the TNT production is directly pirated from this airshow video including crowd scenes, the same cockpit footage sans the UFOs, etc... an out and out Fraud... Or the Apollo 16 footage of the big disc over the moon... turns out to be the tip of an antennae mounted on the command module... Or Gordon Coopers claim that he saw a UFO land in the Mojave during military testing at Edwards AFB.... no one ever sought out the videographers that Cooper claimed had filmed the landing of a small disc on tripod landing gear.... well, they were found and they tell a different story. That will be coming out soon.... basically they filmed something at a great distance and it didn't land. Anyway, if you want to get to the bottom of these mysteries you have to do science in a logical and sequential fashion. In the case of UFO reports you can't take anything at face value. I will admit that there are indeed provocative UFO reports and that they may be indicative of real phenomena whose origins and nature would astound the world. No doubt in my mind based upon what I have seen with my own eyes. There is simply no good argument though for sidestepping good science, particularly if we really want the answers. Otherwise the truth is obscured by the jumping to conclusions that comes when science isn't applied. Both governments started their own projects using the same name to research the cause of the numerous aircraft crashes and other unusual phenomena (including UFO sightings) in the Lake Ontario area. The below web page by the NGDA (government web site) writes: "From 1951 through 1994, the U.S. Navy, under its Project Magnet program, continuously collected vector aeromagnetic survey data to support the U.S. world magnetic modeling and charting needs. NGDC is the designated national archive for these data." http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/geomag/aromag.shtml According the below web page, the community of UFO type reserachers first became aware of this in 1963, when Robert C. Beck, attending a conference of electronic manufacturers at San Francisco, noted a Super Constellation on an auxiliary runway at the airport. Its tail bore the words "Project Magnet" with the identification number 145925. Using his Lockheed background. (he had tested Constellations) he managed to enter into a conversation with the plane's three pilots..... During the discussions, Beck reported, it was obvious that Crow and the pilots were aware that this project was part of the overall search for UFO information..... http://www.presidentialufo.com/us_project_magnet.htm Ronald Yahoo!
